Women In Security Panel

On November 24th, WIISC UofT members came together to host the Women In Security panel at University College. 25 student participants and our 10 team members convened to discuss careers and experiences in the field. Jivika Bhat, our finance director and event spearhead, led the introduction and panel discussion, which was followed by a Q&A period moderated by our operations director, Ariadne Douglas.

The event concluded with a networking session with the three speakers, where students were encouraged to asked deeper questions about topics discussed. Click here to read a brief biography about our featured speakers.

WIISC UofT looks forward to hosting more events like this in the following year!

AGO Art Exhbit Tour

On February 27th, WIISC UOFT in collaboration with Hart House's Social Justice Committee, held our first social event of the winter term.

We visited the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) to observed and explored the works of female artists, their creative journeys, the struggles and adaptations they have faced, and the powerful themes that shape their art. A special focus of the visit will be the exhibition by Jessie Mockrin, which ends on March 6th, whose works challenge traditional narratives through bold reinterpretations of the history and mythology of classical works.

Our Operations Director Ariadne Douglas coordinated and lead discussion throughout the event. Additionally, Co-President Emily Hesp and Social Media Associate Gillian Mae Trillanes attended and oversaw the event on behalf of the WIISC team.

Mensturation Product Donation Drive

In November 2025, WIISC UofT and the Second Sex Club launched our inaugrual Mensturation Product Drive! This five-month long drive sought to  increase awareness about period poverty and encourage the product donations  to the local non-profit, Period Purse.

In he second semester, Jessi, an educational workshop facilitator from the organization was  invited to host an informative discussion on the subject. To learn more about the Period Purse and their meaningful work, click here

Over 700 products were counted upon concluding the drive and will be donated to the organization in May 2026. WIISC UofT looks forward to continuing advocacy and educational programs like this in the following year.

What's next?

This summer, our team will plan a tenative events timeline with input from students and our featured speakers.

Keep an eye out for our upcoming events survey, which will be shared on all our communication platforms and this website. We want to hear what interests you most in international security and how we can plan the best events for our general members!

Below are a few activities that our team is considering for our programming next year:

  • Student Speed Networking: A low-stakes, structured oppourtunity to discuss your professional interests and accomplishments with peers! Free food and refreshments will be provided.

  • Professor Coffee-Chats: Small gatherings of students and a professor to encourage discussion on a specific topic.

  • Roundtable Discussions: Monthly discussions on a topic outlined at the beginning of the month, which will be communicated through our Substack Newsletter.

  • Career Panels: Scholars and industry leaders in international security will be invited to participate in a guided discussion, with a question period and networking session afterwards.

  • Blog Submissions: We encourage any student from any discpline to submit an article to our blog, The Security Brief!

  • Articles and Resources: Team members and general members will be encouraged to share resources they believe will benefit the WIISC UofT community on our website. More information on this project to follow.
